About

me2-copy1What is Bwaltonphoto.com all about? Keep reading and you’ll discover why this site had to come to fruition.  At first glance, it may appear as though this site is all about photos; however, there is so much more to the site than mere photos. The real story is how these photos ended up here in the first place.

In 2005, I discovered Latin dance as a hobby. Some friends of mine invited me to see them do a performance one evening and I was introduced to salsa for the first time. Although I had an opportunity to learn many more styles of dance, salsa found its way into my life quickly and has had a profound impact on my life ever since. So, how did I start taking dance photos? One evening in late 2005, there was an anniversary party at our local salsa club and the instructor at the time threw me his camera and asked if I would take photos because he was busy accommodating other guests at the party.  At the time, I didn’t know anything about his camera, or any camera for that matter, but I gave it a shot anyways. After the evening was over, he looked at the photos on his camera and he said, “Wow man, these photos are really good.” He expressed the need for someone to take photos of our local salsa scene–that someone turned out to be me!

It all seemed like an accident to me, but before long I was borrowing my sister’s camera (which I never returned to her) and I was taking pictures every night I went out to dance. I found myself dancing less and taking pictures more and more often.  Eventually, I had to break down and purchase my own camera. Over the last few years, people have grown to love my photos and appreciate them just as much as I love to take them. Being a social dancer has given me an advantage for taking photos of people dancing salsa because I can anticipate some of the many dramatic poses and positions that dancers find themselves in. There is nothing more dramatic than an unexpected dip, powerful cross-body lead, or a double-spin at head-spinning speeds. Couple my dance experience over the past few years with the experience I’ve gained from taking thousands of social dance photos, and you’ll see that I’ve been able to produce some pretty cool dance pictures. I have tons of room for improvement, but I’m amazed everyday at how far I have come in such a short period of time.

With all of that said, I have to give thanks to everyone who has told me that they appreciate my pictures and that I should pursue this endeavor. Looking back, I’ve had strangers, friends, and even family tell me that I have a great eye for photos. I like to think of this site as a place to share the way I see the world through the eyes of a camera lens.  I started out taking dance photos, but over time, I have grown to love taking pictures of everything that is interesting to me.

This site, as mentioned earlier, is more than just a photography site. It’s an information station, a place to hang out, and also a place to purchase some pretty cool photos at a price that won’t cause anyone to foreclose on their home.

Enjoy the site and all that is within,

Again, I would like to thank my closest friends and family for all of the encouragement they have given me. You guys know who you are!

Enjoy the site and visit often for updates and new photos.
