Prom Season 2009 4.27.2009
It’s prom season in our area and I’ve been given the opportunity to take a shot at some prom pictures. I’ve never taken prom photos before, so I decided to give it a try. The weather is warming up outside and it’s nice to be outdoors taking photos. I have a few of the photos posted in the “people” section of the site. Taking these photos was a lot of fun and maybe I’ll get the opportunity to do more in the future. Graduation pictures are fast approaching and I have already been approached to do some of those. We’ll see how it goes!

El Congresito de Greenville 4.4.2009
Once again, this event was the biggest, most exciting salsa event held in South Carolina. This year, the list of talent was incredible. The workshops, performances, and social dancing were full of energy.
I’ll have a sample gallery up soon from this event. Hold your horses!

“CANS” social hosted by Charlotte Latin Dance 3.31.2009
On Tuesday, March 31st, I was again invited to join Charlotte Latin Dance for their social held at Cans in Charlotte, NC. The beginner class was huge this time with an abundance of first timers joining Heather and Ash for the introductory lesson. This event is a lot of fun and it’s a great excuse to get some good exercise, too. At this event, you will hear Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha Cha, and some Bachata. If you haven’t been to this social yet, you should definitely check it out if you are in the area. This social is held on the last Tuesday of each month at CANS.

Myrtle Beach Latin Dance Conference March 13-15. 2009.
On March 13-15, I took a trip down to Myrtle Beach to cover the Myrtle Beach Latin Dance Conference hosted by Adalia of Salsa Queen Productions. The weather was cool and foggy, but that didn’t stop everyone from having fun. All of the workshops and parties were held indoors, so we stayed inside and made the best of it! At the conference, there were dance classes available featuring various instructors from around the Southeast. Everything from beginner Cha Cha Cha to intermediate Salsa were taught in a very nice and roomy venue (2001 night club). People were easily able to meet and greet and I was impressed with how friendly everyone at the conference was. Everyone was there to have a great time and relax. The conference started with a casual dinner and registration at the Carribean Bar and Grill followed by classes and an evening party Saturday night. There were also classes going on Sunday morning, but the Beach party was cancelled–I think.
This event has huge potential and is a lot of fun. Having the Beach close by and being able to dance at the same time is hard to beat! Adalia is planning another conference later this year in September, so be on the lookout for the details. You can keep up with what’s going on at Myrtle Beach by checking out the following sites. I look forward to the next event and doing my part in helping the scene grow at Myrtle Beach.

“CANS” social hosted by Charlotte Latin Dance in Charlotte, N.C. 2.24.2009
Tuesday evening (Feb. 24th, 2009), I was invited to attend a latin dance social to take some photos of the fun going on at the event. This event takes place once per month at CANS restaurant and bar. A beginner class was given by Heather Dalnoot, Co-owner of Charlotte Latin Dance, and the class lasted about half an hour. Normally, a beginner class begins around 7.30 p.m. and is followed by social dancing for all until 11 p.m. There is plenty of room to dance and there is also free parking just across the street from the restaurant. You can’t beat that!
Admission is FREE for Charlotte Latin Dance Students and only $3 for everyone else. Although I was only there for a short time to take photos, I can honestly say that Charlotte loves to dance! The environment was great, the people were friendly, and it was definately worth the drive up.
Normally, attendance for this social is between 100-200 people. You will hear and be able to dance to Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha Cha, Mambo, and Bachata music at this event. So, there is a really good variety of music for people to dance to.

I will be posting a gallery of photos from this event very shortly!

Ramon’s Salsa Social in Columbia, S.C. 2.7.2009
On Saturday, February 7th, I was in Columbia for a very special evening. Ramon Gil of Salsa Caribe Enterprises hosted an event at the Capital Senior Center. After the evening was over, Ramon concluded that around 175 people attended this event and about 30% of the attendance consisted of people from outside of Columbia, S.C. In attendance were dancers from Columbia, S.C., Charlotte, N.C., Charleston, S.C., Atlanta, G.A., Greenville, S.C., and Myrtle Beach, S.C., to name a few. The dancing was great and everyone had a great time. For those interested in attending the next event held in Columbia, I’m told that Ramon is planning on hosting two more similar events at the end of March and also another event in May of this year. I will provide details here as they become available.
To my surprise, a journalist from the Columbia Star Paper in Columbia was in attendance at the event. I was approached regarding the use of some of the photos I took and some of them have been published!
See the Columbia Star article and view my photos used from the event HERE.
Jimmy Rumba’s Year End Extravaganza 12.27.2008
On December 27th (2008), I drove down to Atlanta to experience ATL salsa for the first time! It’s often hard to find the time to drive to Atlanta, but since I had some time over the holidays, I decided to make the trip. The trip was well worth going! There were so many great dancers there and everyone appeared to be having a great time. Jimmy Rumba and friends hosted this event and it was one to remember. There was an awesome performance by “Junior and Emily” and plenty of space to social dance! I got the opportunity to take some good photos and I hope I’ll get the opportunity to visit Atlanta again soon!
Enjoy the pictures!
Brian
